FAQ on Black Pearl Portable Satellite System
Homepage > FAQ on Black Pearl Portable Satellite System
Can we use a computer monitor instead of TV screen ?
Any monitor with A/V INPUT can be used.
Is the BLACK PEARL compatible with different Set-Top boxes?
You have to choose the proper Set-Top box depending on the satellites you are
about to search for, and also the LNB and other related programs should be
changed based on the related satellites. Any Set-Top boxes suitable for the
targeted satellites can be used.
Can the BLACK PEARL be used in different areas ?
The NIT or search and find functionality enables the BLACK PEARL to
automatically reset itself to the pre-programmed location for each country and
area. This unique facility makes the BLACK PEARL more user friendly for the
home user. The BLACK PEARL is light in weight making it easy to transport and
is designed to fit with the décor of any building or home.
Can we use both Echostar and DirecTV with a single BLACK PEARL ?
No, you can't. Each Provider has different broadcasting systems which require
different LNB and STB correspondingly. Therefore you are not able to use two-
satellite services with a single BLACK PEARL.
How does the BLACK PEARL receive the signal from the satellites ?
Because of its auto positioning capability, BLACK PEARL searches the signals
from the satellites automatically and provides reception for your TV. BLACK
PEARL capability locates all of the signals of the satellites within the
capacity of its dish size in the designated areas. The specification of the LNB
must be adjusted to the prescribed condition correctly.
Where does the LNB installed in antenna get power from?
It's the same as the typical satellite antenna. It gets the power supply from
Set-Top box.
Should the power supply always be connected?
The power supply connected to BLACK PEARL is used for its motion to search for
the proper satellites. After locating the signal and reception provided, you no
longer need any power supply.
What is the use of the Searching Program Update Cable Port ?
It is used for upgrading control programs. It's not common but the satellite
broadcasting transponder information can be changed. When that happens, it
affects the antenna therefore the information should be changed
correspondingly. In this case, the updated program should be transmitted into
the antenna through the Searching Program Update Cable Port. BLACK PEARL is
user-friendly. General users can easily upgrade the program with the
information described on its homepage, www.campersat.co.uk.
According to the manual offered, the BLACK PEARL dish is to be
aligned to South. When South is blocked, what solutions can you suggest?
The satellites for broadcasting are located around the equator. Therefore the
proper direction of BLACK PEARL is South for the Northern Hemisphere and North
for the Southern Hemisphere (this doesn't mean ‘due North' nor ‘due South')
Moreover, the signals from the satellites are transmitted in a straight line,
which makes the antenna and the satellites face each other in Line Of Sight
condition. If there are any obstacles between them, the satellites' signals
can't be received properly, which blocks the satellite services.
Am I able to use the BLACK PEARL in an automobile ?
Yes, you can use the BLACK PEARL in a car with its functions of auto
positioning in a fixed location.
Is there any distance limitation between the TV set and the BLACK
PEARL ?
The BLACK PEARL is connected to the Set-Top box with a Coax cable and the
Set-Top box is connected to the TV set (BLACK PEARL ? Set-Top box ? TV set).
The length of the cable is fully operational up to 60 feet, i.e. you will be able
to place your TV 60 feet away.
BLACK PEARL has 2 Set-Top box ports - STB1 & STB2. Where
should Set-Top be connected ?
BLACK PEARL receives special information from Set-Top box when in operation.
Your Set-Top box must be connected to STB1 port and the channel of the
satellite you are to receive should be adjusted to Set-Top box 1 connection.
STB2 port is used with relation to 2nd Set-Top box installation.
Can we use multiple TVs with a single BLACK PEARL (for motels or
dormitories, etc.) ?
There are two Set-Top boxes that can be connected to single antenna, BLACK
PEARL STB1 & STB2 ports. If you want to select TV channels individually,
each TV set has to have its own separate Set-Top boxes. Therefore 2 TV sets can
be connected simultaneously with 2 ports offered. You need additional devices
for multiple connections.
What is the life cycle of the BLACK PEARL ?
BLACK PEARL is semi-permanent. We offer 1-year warranty
Are there any devices we need to avoid using with BLACK PEARL
simultaneously?
No special devices are in the list. BLACK PEARL is not influenced by other
devices in operation nearby.
Is BLACK PEARL unit water-proof ?
Yes, it is. It is made of water-proof material for everyday usage durable for a
bath in the shower.
Can BLACK PEARL be affected by weather conditions such as rain,
temperature, humidity?
Generally, it has nothing to do with temperature & humidity. (Operation
temperature : - 30? ~ + 80? / Humidity : 95% @ 40 degree) In some cases, the
rain can affect BLACK PEARL's functions, which means, satellite signals can be
affected by the amount of rain. Of course, BLACK PEARL is well-operated in
normal wet conditions but it may be affected by heavy rains depending on
locations as the power of satellite signals vary according to the region.
